In July of 2010 I was given the honor Of building a Memorial bench for a Texas playwright Eddie Cope. Eddie passed at the age of 96 so I made his bench out of a wood called Ipe. This wood could last close to 150 years in an outdoor environment. This is a very difficult wood to work with. It dose not like any tool that has the word ‘saw’ in it.

This bench has a proud place at the gardens at Stages Repertory Theater in Houston Texas.

A Bed Crown

These are called Bed Crowns and they are placed on the wall over the bed. I like to make the crowns and paint them up. Most of the time they will have ribbons and bows but I'll let your decorator do that and I'll make the slots for them. These go from $225 to $325.

In July I was asked to help out with Extreme Home Makeover by a friend who had been with the show twice before. Working long hours in Houston nin July is in of itself is extreme. We all had helped with a lot of theme projects, but there are projects that cannot be done at the tent by a group. I was given such a project. So I was able to get the Hot Air Balloon Bookcase done in 2 days. 2 very long days. the design got more than they expected. they thought that the gondla would be flat sheets of plywoo as well as the doors. They really liked the woven wood basket and rounded doors that looked like a balloon with shelves on the inside.

The Basket

The family is the focus of the show and the house is the central object but Art World is were things happen. Everybody who is anybody show up in Art World. This list includes guest stars, directors, special guest, mascots and the stars of the show. By the way, the stars of the show work harder than anybody, they have to wear many hats and they were pouring out sweat like the rest of us but they have to do it with a smile on their face. That is hard to do in 100 degree heat, a tight schedule and delays.Strange as it sounds with everything that went on plus the oppressive heat, it was a lot of fun and I got to meet some wonderful people.

A friend loves those ghost hunting shows so for her birthday, I got her a ghost hunting kit, but it did not come with a case. So I made her a really cool ghost hunting briefcase. It is shaped like a tombstone and the inside is lined on the inside like a casket. There lots space for the equipment along with a leather file pockets and a spare compartment for other gear. It is made of walnut and walnut veneer over 5 layer 1/8” thick plywood. The back is a chalkboard for quick notes and who knows, maybe a ghost is old school and would write a message. If the ghost is not that nice, you could hear that terrible sound of fingernails on the blackboard.
